New to Prime Day? We have a primer on everything you need to know. Sales are accurate at the time of publication, but prices and inventory are always subject to change.

If you're in the market for a cheap Bluetooth speaker you won’t need to be too precious about, this Prime Day deal is worth a look: The Anker Soundcore 2 is currently down to $27.97 (from $44.99—a 38% drop). You do need to be an Amazon Prime member to grab the discount, and if you’re not, you can always sign up for the free 30-day trial, claim the deal (and any other Prime Day deals that catch your eye), and cancel before the month’s up. If you do keep the subscription after the free trial, Prime runs you $14.99 a month. For the best Prime Day 2025 deals, check out Lifehacker's live blog and stay up to date.

The Soundcore 2 has been around a while and still holds up as a basic, take-it-anywhere speaker. It’s small enough to toss in a backpack and offers 24 hours of battery life, though that really depends on how loud you’re playing it. Still, it'll last through a beach day, a park hang, or play a few podcasts while you're doing chores. It’s also IPX7-rated for water resistance, so if it gets splashed or dropped in the sink, you’ll probably be fine.

That said, it’s not going to blow your mind sonically. There’s a clear dip in the bass, and it doesn’t get very loud, so don’t expect to power your next house party with it. There’s no app or EQ to tweak the sound either, so what you hear is what you get. If you're not expecting booming audio or party-level volume, this one's easy to live with and easier to replace if something happens to it. (CNET gave it a solid 7 out of 10, noting its affordability and battery life.)

Looking for something else? Retailers like Walmart, Best Buy, and Home Depot have Prime Day competition sales that are especially useful if you don’t have Amazon Prime.

  • Walmart’s Prime Day competition sale begins at midnight on July 8 and will include deals up to 50% off. It’s an especially good option if you have Walmart+.

  • Best Buy’s Prime Day competition sale, “Black Friday in July,” runs through Sunday, July 13 and has some of the best tech sales online. It’s an especially good option if you’re a My Best Buy “Plus” or “Total” member.

  • Home Depot extended its 4th of July sale through at least July 9, competing with some amazing deals of its own. It’s an especially good option if you’re looking for power tools, appliances, or outdoor equipment.
